Hey there! I need you to do something before you close this email.

Open your resume.

Search for these three phrases:

“Responsible for...”

“Assisted with...”

“Helped to...”

If any of them are in there, we need to talk because those three phrases are quietly costing you government callbacks.

Here’s why.

Government job postings are scored. A real human, or an ATS system is looking for evidence that you did the work. Not that you were assigned to it. Not that you were in the room. That you did it.

“Responsible for” says you were assigned something. Not that you did it.

“Assisted with” says you were present. Not that you contributed.

Government hiring managers want outcomes. Impact. Scope. Numbers.

Instead of: “Responsible for managing client caseload”

Try: “Managed a caseload of 47 clients, coordinating services across workforce, housing, and childcare programs”

Instead of: “Assisted with compliance reporting”

Try: “Supported federal compliance reporting for 120+ active cases, maintaining documentation accuracy across quarterly audits”

Same experience. Completely different read.

Go find every “responsible for,” “assisted with,” and “helped to” on your resume. Replace every single one. That’s your homework for today.

And if you want someone to go through your entire resume and show you exactly where this is happening, that’s what the free Career Clarity Debrief is for.
